War, What Is It Good For?

War! What is it good for?

'War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!' --- Edwin Starr

I'd like to ask a question and answer it, with a 'slight' sarcasm, to support the above quote.

Question.
What is war?

Answer:
War is a conflict situation, where nations or opposing parties carry on a 'force of arms', to resolve a bitter situation.   A situation which can be resolved through true and open discussion, without harming citizens.

It is very sad that our leaders still resort to such violence as war to end disputes.

Sincerely,

Ben

The Free Fall

The Free Fall

The markets today had one of its worth days.  The loss was over 2%.

The main reason for the bad day was the worldwide debt, particularly Greece's debt.  Also, the markets are waiting for the decision of this country, wether Greece will stay or leave the European Union.  We all need to wait the outcome.

Check out the numbers below:

Gian, the Villain

Gian, the Villain

The movies of 'A Fistful of Dollars' and 'A Few Dollars More' had something very important in common.

Both films show the brilliant acting from 'Gian Maria Volonte'.   He was the villain in both movies directed by Sergio Leone.   Brilliant performance by this Italian actor, who died from a heart attack in the year 1994 at the city of Florina, located in northern Greece.  He was filming the movie 'Ulysses Gaze' when he passed away.

Mr Volonte wanted to be buried in the small island of Sardinia. His resting place is at 'Isola Della Maddelena' on the previously mentioned island.

I watched the movie of 'A Few Dollars More' again today and I very much enjoyed this movie, especially the performance of the late Mr Volonte.   RIP, the best villain in any movie.

Sincerely

The Beautiful Tuco

The Beautiful Tuco

Eli Wallach, who played "the Ugly" character of the brilliant movie of 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' has passed away quietly on June 24, 2014.

         Excellent actor - Tuco

Rest In Peace.

Mr Wallach was an American film, television and stage actor whose career spanned more than six decades, beginning in the late 1940s.

      the cemetery scene

Mr Wallach initially studied method acting under 'Sanford Meisner', and later became a founding member of the Actors Studio.

I first watched him in the spaghetti western mentioned about and always thought he was brilliant in this role.  'Tuco', one could argue, stole almost every single scene in the movie.  Now , we will not argue this, not the time, as the entire production with all the cast and members, came together to make the 'best' film in 'world' theatre, in my opinion.

        Another scene from the cemetery

Today, I wanted to bring to attention, this 'Beautiful' man passed away on June 24, 2014; and I am ashamed to admit I heard about this yesterday, on August 29, 2014.

My humble homage to this man.

RIP.

Niyeti Guzel Olanin

Niyeti Guzel Olanin

'Niyeti guzel olanin, akibeti hayir olur' --- Atasozu (Anonim)

          Narrow roads of old Bodrum

I would like to explain what the above Quote means.  I will first write what it means in Turkish, as it does have a deep meaning.

Afterwards, I will translate it to English.

First of all, I need to explain what 'Atasozu' means.  The 'Atasozu' is used for 'sayings' 'quotes' 'proverbs' that have come from centuries past, and the author is an unknown person from society.

And now, the English translation.

Before beginning a task, event or duty, make sure to understand that, the event needs to be beneficial to ones self, family and neighbourhood.  Because, if beneficial to ones self, it will be a 'positive' outcome for everyone.  However, if we have 'evil' or 'bad' intend from the beginning, the results will be detrimental to everyone.

Basically, do the right thing from the beginning, and the result will be positive for everyone.

Kind of a 'dark' topic today, however thought to share.

The Brilliant Sergio Leone

The Brilliant Sergio Leone

The 'Briliant' man, who created his own movie-making brand of epic films, with rich characters, plus who went on to create a hand full of films in the 1960's, so very exceptional, that the films earned their own generic moniker;

'Spaghetti Westerns'

         Brilliant man directing the legend

The films listed below were initially deemed as nihilistic and violent;

A Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

However, they galvanized the genre of 'Spaghetti Westerns', turning Mr Leone into an international directorial star, and earning the films religious following by viewers from every corner of our universe.

Films by Mr Leone

        Beautiful picture

1959, The Last Days of Pompeii (Mario Bonnard is the credited director; Sergio Leone served as assistant director and reportedly, however took over completion of the film when Mr Bonnard became severely ill during production)

1961, The Colossus of Rhodes (Mr Leone's first film)

1964, A Fistful of Dollars (1st part of the Dollars Trilogy)

1965, For a Few Dollars More (2nd part of the Dollars Trilogy)

1966, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Final part of the Dollars Trilogy)

      Another graet picture

1968, Once Upon a Time in the West

1971, Duck, You Sucker!

1973, My Name is Nobody (Producer, uncredited co-director)

1975, A Genius, Two Partners and a Dupe (Uncredited producer, co-director)

1984, Once Upon a Time in America

My sincere respect goes out to this man.

Ben
