Muhabbet kelimesinin Onemi

Muhabbet' kelimesinin Onemi

This is a follow-up to a previous blog I wrote titled "Derin Muhabbet and Love,” please look for it in my 'history' list.  Today, I will write about the meaning of 'Muhabbet' in Turkish, as it needs to be explained to the younger generation, who, unfortunately, do not use this word properly.

----------

'Muhabbet' kelimesinin gonulden gelen bagimlilik anlamında kullanılmaktadır.

'Sevgi' kelimesi, 'Muhabbet' kelimesine gore, yeterli degildir.  Onun icin 'Derin Muhabbet' demek daha dogru olur 'Seviyorum' kelimesinin yerine.

'Habbe' kelimesi tohumudur.

Allaha-ismarladik.

2004 Soldier

2004 Soldier (Asker - in Turkish)

10 sene olmus...

Hakikatten o kadar olmusmu?

Ben 2004 senesinde 'Parali Askerlik' yaptim Burdur sehrinde.

Askerligimi 28 gun yaptim.

Ilk gittigim gunun gecesi cok kotu idi, cok iyi hatirlarim, kendime demistim/sormustum 'Ben ne yaptim?'

Koca bir 'Gymnasium' Salonun icinde 50 kisi yatiyorduk, rahat degildi.

Ve hersey cok degisik idi.

Kalabalik idi,

Hava cok sicak idi,

Kimseyi tanimiyordum,

Cok kotu gorundu hersey, ilkbakista...

Bazi seylerden ders almak lazim diye dusunuyorum.

Simdilik hoscakal,

Ben

Day of Birth

Day of Birth

Some sites can now tell you the exact date of your birth.  I have copy/pasted a link of one of these sites, here below.
http://www.korn19.ch/coding/days.php

Please visit this site if you are interested in the 'day' of your birth.  I have an interesting story of my 'birth day'.

It says I was born on a Sunday, when completing the required information on the above site.  My mother has told me the story of me being born on a Saturday, which is interesting as then it conflicts with the website.

Here is the story:

My father went to work Saturday early morning, he was a 'Pazarci', which means that he sold fruits and vegetables at various 'Farmer markets'.  How it worked in Istanbul was that each day, he would sell his produce at a different farmers market across the city.  That day, on Saturday, he was located at 'Beykoz', which is a neighbourhood in the Asian side of Istanbul.  My parents lived in 'Fatih', which is on the European side of the city.

     Fatih, Istanbul

I was born early afternoon on that day my father worked at Beykoz, which would be Saturday.

Also, my father did not work Sundays, this was his only day off.

     Beykoz, Istanbul

After giving birth in her home, the upstairs neighbour, who was my
mothers uncles daughter, and my mothers best friend, which her name was Hatice.   Hatice's husband was called to duty, however, sadly I cannot remember his name, today.

Anyway, the husband of Hatice was sent to where my father was employed that day, to inform him I was born.  He went from Fatih to Beykoz, which would be approximately hour and half journey.  For his efforts and good news, my father bought him a nice meal, and they returned back home together, later that evening.

I saw this gentleman, Hatice's husband when I last visited Istanbul in August 2012.  He re-told the nice story of how he travelled from the European side of Istanbul, and crossed the bosphorous sea to the Asian side to tell my father of the birth.  He told the story, while we were sitting at a 'coffee house' in Fatih.  I bought him a cup of tea and he spoke while I listened.  I hope I see him again when I visit Istanbul again....soon.

I have to remember his name, his name is on the 'Tip of my tongue',

Back to that webpage.

Therefore, either the chart is wrong on the webpage, or my parents put my date of birth of January 31 and it should have been Saturday January 30th.

Interesting story, I thought to share.

Thank you for visiting,

Ben here

Rabbena Atina Min Ledunke

Rabbena Atina Min Ledunke

I would like to explain what 'Rabbena Atina Min Ledunke' pray means.  First, I will write the Arabic version below, with Latin words.

(Arapca / Arabic)
'Rabbena atina min ledunke rahmeten ve heyyi lena min emrina raseda rabbis rahli sadri ve yessirli emir'.

Now, I will translate this Pray to Turkish, and afterwards to English.

(Bu Dua'nin turkce aciklamasi soyledir)
Ey Rabbimiz! Bize kendi katından bir rahmet ver.  Ve bu isimizde bize dogruluk ver bizim için muvaffakiyet hazırla.  Rabbim gonlumu ac ve isimi kolaylastır.

(English meaning now)
O God! Give us a favor to your elevated standard.  This favor should be righteous and good for me.  O God, help me open my heart and make my work easy.

Recite this pray / dua if you are starting a new task.  It will hopefully open your mind/heart to accept this task, and finally will help you to succeed.

Thank you for reading,

Ben

The movie of Star Wars, almost all of us love to watch, was released in theatres in the USA, on May 25, 1977.  It has been 37 years, this month, almost to the day.

The film was made for 12 million dollars, however earned 800 million dollars in World Wide Sales.
         Original poster

As of 2014, the film is the third highest grossing film in the World.  And is often ranked as one of the best films of all time, by viewers and movie critics.

The film received the 'Best Picture' Academy Award in 1977.

       This one is awesome

Most fans will not know, but 'Star Wars' is preserved as part of USA's National Film Registry, by the Library of Congress, as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Also, the film's soundtrack was added to the USA's National Recording Registry.

        Storm troopers

Significantly, Star Wars is an important achievement in USA Film History.

If you read this, and watch the film in the future again, remember that this movie is highly important and therefore should be watched with great admiration.

The Allocation of Income within the Ottoman Empire

The Allocation of Income within the Ottoman Empire

Today, I would like to bring attention to the income earned within the Ottoman Empire.

First of all, let us write about the Sultan's Earning.

     Blue Mosque

The income of the Sultan were of the following ways:
It came from a percentage of the booty obtained in war, &
the collection of taxes from all corners within the Empire.

Other high level officials within the Empire were not salaried individualizes.  These officials would be assigned the revenue of various estates and/or villages.  The estates and/or villages would be returned to the Treasury when the officials left their positions or died.

The Janissary Corps were the soldiers of the Empire, and they were treated much the same way.  The amount of money each soldier was to receive would be weighed and sealed in a bag by the Grand Vizier before they were handed out.

     Beylerbeyi neighbourhood in Istanbul

This 'Income Allocation' within the Ottoman Empire worked well until the 19th century.  This changed for the worse after this century as after loosing large territories and obviously income loss due to less Taxation the Empire crumbled.

The Ottoman Empire collapsed in 1923, the cause was income loss and 'old ways' of running a 'sick Empire'.

Galatasaray Basketball Team

Galatasaray Basketball Team

'Galatasaray Odeabank' became the first Turkish female basketball team to win a European title, after a big victory over arch rival of Fenerbahce on April 13, 2014.

       the champions

Amazing achievement for Turkish Women's Basketball as two teams from the city of Istanbul, played in the European Final.

Galatasaray played to a 69 - 58 victory over Fenerbahce in a game played in the city of Ekaterinburg, Russia, to claim the Euro-league Women's title in a historic match for Turkish basketball.

Alba Torrens of Galatasaray scored nine points along with her four rebounds and six assists in the final, and therefore was named the Most Valuable Player of the Final Eight, in the Euro-league.

“This is a team victory,” Coach Memnun said.

Galatasaray shocked overwhelming title favorite UMMC Ekaterinburg in the semifinal on April 11, 2014, while Fenerbahce beat Tango Bourges for a place in the final game.

Incredible achievement in Turkish basketball.

Congratulations to both clubs.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in a Catafalque

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in a Catafalque

The founder of the 'Republic of Turkey' passed away on November 10, 1938, in Istanbul.

Ataturk's body was put in a zinc-lined mahogany casket of walnut wood; and placed on a catafalque.

       Galata area of Istanbul

The catafalque was used to move the body from 'Dolmabahce Palace' to 'SarayBurnu' neighbourhood and placed on the ship 'Ertugrul' to leave Istanbul.

          Karakoy area of Istanbul

Here are two historical and heartbreaking pictures of thousands of mourning Istanbul'ians paying their respects of the passing catafalque.

Amazing pictures don't you think?

The Mission of Bandirma Ship

The Mission of Bandirma Ship

The 'Bandırma' was an Ottoman ship, which became famous for the historical role in taking Mustafa Kemal Ataturk from the city of Constantinople to the northern city of Samsun on May 16, 1919.  This journey marked the start of the Turkish National Movement against the Imperial powers.

     Mustafa Kemal Ataturk

The 'Bardirma' became famous, when it sailed with the important guest of Mr Kemalr, to the city of Samsun.   Mr Kemal was the Inspector of the 'Ninth Army Troops' of the Ottoman Empire.

Mr Kemal was sent to Anatolia by Vahdeddin Sultan's Decree to oversee the 'Turkish National Movement' to free the Ottoman lands from Imperial powers of England and France; to name a couple of ambitious and opportunistic powers.

Mr Kemal was accompanied with 22 officers, 25 soldiers and 8 administrative staff.  The crew sailed on the old ship named 'Bandirma' with an un-functioning compass and set foot on land in Samsun, 3 days later, on May 19, 1919.

     Bandirma Ship

Upon landing, Mr Kemal started the movement that resulted in the declaration of the 'Republic of Turkey' a short 4 years later.

Sarik Tara and ENKA

Sarik Tara and ENKA

I would like to describe briefly, the man, who is currently the second richest person in Turkey.

     Billionaires of Turkey

His name is Sarik Tara.

Mr Tara is the founder of Turkey's largest construction company of ENKA.

ENKA is involved with: contracting, construction, energy production, real estate investment and management industry.

     Sarik Tara

The company is especially active in Russia, where it owns offices, hotels and shopping malls in the city of Moscow, as well as supermarkets, hypermarkets and malls across the country.

Also, ENKA has built U.S. embassy buildings in the countries of Dominican Republic, Equatorial Guinea and Afghanistan.

'Construction industry is a lucrative business', Mr Tara would surely agree to this statement, since his entire fortune was built by this industry.

World Water Day

World Water Day

World Water Day is celebrated on March 22, of every year.

The day is used to promote clean water and sustainable aquatic habitats.

      this is life

After all, 'water is life' since, all living things on this Earth, depend on water to survive.

Get this:
Of all the water on Earth, humans can only use about 1% of it.  Usable water is only found in groundwater aquifers, rivers and freshwater lakes.

Please be cognizant of the importance of this liquid, and use it wisely.

Sincerely,
